where the sidewalk ends
A standard curb is eight feet in length, by one foot wide and nine inches tall. They are mundane, everyday, modernist forms used to organize and restrict space. Through re-sizing these forms I am hoping to alter and shift them from objects of authority to references for self-scale.

Scale per se, is of no interest to me, but scale in relation to the human body – human scale - is of prime interest. I am intrigued by the problem of how small a particular work can be and still be able to communicate its message, or how large an environment can be and be experienced as sculpture. I believe it is all a question of the formal relationships of the components to the whole and of each to the human body.

I am interested in work that enhances direct physical experience and motivates meaningful human interaction.
These curbs are a response to my surroundings, a place for contemplation and a space for reflection.
